guys in the museum

ok, i just saw the remake for the first time.Besides the stuff discussed already i want to add the fact that those guys hired to do the job or whatever, create a digression for Crown to steal the Monet aren't Romanians. And the language Rene speaks when questioning one of them is definitely not Romanian. It sounds like German or Polish, maybe.I don't know why they used it this fact but is totally wrong, and as a Romanian, it feels weird to hear&see this..

Its German she's speaking, and yeah it is annoying, it's either patronising to the audience or offensive to Romanians, it's not too much bother to get a Romanian to teach Miss Russo a few lines, but studios always seem to do crap like this.

reply

In the film Russo says in effect: Who would ever bother with Romanian?
I think the point was that the thieves speak more than one, or even two languages. She is speaking German, and my limited experience with residents of Europe says most do know at least two languages. I don't think this was at all patronizing to the audience or offensive to the Romanians. If anything, it's highlighting how much better educated they are, even the thieves.

reply

Yea, I think the point that is being made by her is that they speak multiple languages and are not just dumb lackeys. They're willing to do some time to get their pay later on from TC, and part of that is their silence.
