depressing

did anyone else think this movie was really depressing?

reply

Kind of. But I think that love between Eric and Johnny was so... 'sweet', I suppose (although that sounds terrible). Especially because it wasn't consummated in any way, it was just pure love. I think the thought that love like that could exist, even in the most depressing of places is a positive feeling to go away with.

The movie really showed how people react to diffrent things,When Eric finally told Johnny how he felt towards him and then johnny acted the way he did it made him feeled loved and then after he died johnny relized how much Eric really did love him.The movie was very good, the end was very depressing. It just proves that Love isnt a matter of gender its the character of the persons heart.

Yeah I think it was far too depressing....

Ok so I understand that people think its a cliche to have a happy ending in movies now, but if it dosent happen whats the point. If you watch a movie and at the end of it you feel like sh*t, thats not good.
So its unrealistic to expect a happy ending, but i dont care.

Why couldnt they have both gone of to live happily ever after in North err Carolina I think. I would have been a nice ending to guys living together, loving eachother for who they.

Where as instead Johnny dosent even bother to take his possibly only unconsious friend to the hospital.. hmm.

I don't think it's unrealistic to expect a happy ending. I actually think it's more of a fantasy to expect a happy ending all the time. We all know that life is not that kind. So, in my opinion, as sad as it was, the movie employed the concept of realism. And as far as going to the hospital, I was wondering that myself. Well, more like, why didn't Eric go to the hospital in the first place. He knew he was shot, and I'm quite sure Veronica would have found some way to pay for it. Also, I have to say, Eric was dead, not unconscious. After all, his body went into shock from blood loss before he died. I'm not bashing the theory, though. It's possible, but not likely probable.

I suppose we all find different meanings in movies and I didn't find the ending unhappy in the sense that Eric found acceptance from Johnny, and Johnny probably discovered a part of himself.

As for going to the hospital, remember Eric had stolen a police gun and shot someone. He would have effectively been handing himself in for a long prison term. The characters were teenagers with limited life experiences and in a state of panic so maybe not thinking clearly.

There's an unedited copy? I didn't check, I just bought it when I saw it in the store. I'll research and find out.

Okay, I tried looking everywhere from suncoast.com to amazon.com, and they all have the same version. I wasn't aware there was ever more than one version. Sorry!
