What's the difference?

I rented this film from Netflix a while back and loved it. I'm a big fan. I went on Amazon today to buy a copy and one for my sister for Christmas. Seems like there're two versions on DVD. The one I rented on Netflix, which is $98 for some reason, and an "edited" version that is a lot cheaper. Can anyone explain this to me? I want to get the same version I saw before, but if I can believe the review I read on Amazon, some of the scenes I liked have been cut out.
Help!
