Oh what a wonderful song score

1964 is My Favorite Year for movie music. MARY POPPINS & A HARD DAY'S NIGHT were the best of the best, but SO much other good stuff: PINK PANTHER, GOLDFINGER, TOPKAPI, RIDE THE WILD SURF, ADVANCE TO THE REAR, Cliff Richard in WONDERFUL LIFE, THREE LIVES OF THOMASINA, etc. etc.

And a surprisingly tuneful score for HEY THERE IT'S YOGI BEAR. At least three tunes are indelibly catchy: ST. LOUIS, ASH CAN PARADE & WHISTLE YOUR WAY BACK HOME, the rest are pretty substantial, too. Even minor musicals rated good songs in those days, which definitely can't be said for the various Muppet movies ("Rainbow Connection" stands out from the remainder like a hit single among filler tracks.)

I've an old gatefold LP of the movie soundtrack, but doubt it's ever been issued on CD. A 'childrenish' movie such as this played mostly at Saturday matinees, then became a beloved fixture on TV.

"Gonna' go-go Saint-Saint Loo-hooie..."

The songs are indeed very, very good...better than you'd expect from a Yogi Bear movie.

First off, I COMPLETELY AGREE about 1964 being a MOST PIVOTAL YEAR in our music culture, which included the Beatles.

OK, full disclosure. I SAW THIS IS THE THEATER, and only now I've gotten to see this again.

I ORDERED THE RECORD FROM SOME CEREAL BOX PROMOTION - it was a 7" 33 1/3 rpm(!) but I VERY WELL remember it did NOT have the music (and I remember being VERY disappointed because of it). It was basically a short, narrated retelling of the story, and no, of course, I didn't KEEP it.

But I forgot (wasn't able to tell at that age) how GOOD the music was. I'm SHOCKED at how GOOD these songs were for a movie that has been all but forgotten.
