Top Ten Most Twisted Directors

Hey. Here are my picks for the directors whose films make people squirm.
In No Particular Order

Takashi Miike
Michael Haneke
Todd Solondz
Harmony Korine
David Cronenberg
David Lynch
John Waters(the early films)
Peter Greenaway
Gaspar Noe
Larry Clark
Ken Russell
Lars Von Trier

There are many more and some deserve to be on this list for just one film or many films.
What are your picks?

It's a helluva list, nick - I can't think of who to add. Still, it's got me thinking and so I'll try and come up with a few names.

Luis Buñuel and Jean-Luc Godard have had their moments.

I would add, tough there would be probably more than ten in the end:

Marco Ferreri
Nagisa Oshima
Tinto Brass
Pier Paolo Pasolini
( oddly or not) Kubrick- at least Clockwork Orange
Francois Ozon
Pedro Almodovar
Oskar Roehler

and i have to think about a few more. But i totally agree about Ken Russell, Larry Clark, Peter Greenaway and Lars von Trier

Simple, i included Ozon becuase he explores sex, psychological trauma, interhuman relationships at degees so twisted few other directors would have the guts to do. He seems to draw his inspiration from everyone's deepest and best-guarded nightmares and depths of the subconscious.

This thread is like a who's-who if my favorite directors. I'm surprised no one has mentioned Catherine Breillat yet, she's awesome!

I dont think harmony Korine is that twisted.
I mean, he made Gummo, which can be considered kind of strange, but I dont know about twisted. Plus his other movies, to me, are far from twisted.
Other than that though, I agree with your list completely. Nice touch on the "early films" for John Waters, His latest movie is garbage, and not in the good way.

Hitchcock - Vertigo(even though I don't like the film, has some deeply misogynistic moments in it), Psycho(for its shock moments) and Frenzy(Hitchcock unbound by the censors!).

David Fincher - For Se7en and Fight Club.

Sion Sono.
Imamura and Suzuki had their moments, too.
