Were all the Idiots outcasts? How did the group start?

Karen was obviously a social outcast.

The reason she was different at the end seems to be because she had nothing positive in life before, and used their Idiocy as a way to cleanse herself, while the others had something positive back in reality and didn't want to sacrifice it.

Where the rest of the members outcasts?

I have a hard time believing they were based on their actions.

But if they weren't, then I wonder how such a group started and existed, since generally it's the outcasts who are interested in these activities of social experimentation and manipulation.

Is it possible and what kind of conditions are required for somewhat normal people to engage in such activities and conduct them so seriously?

Isn't this the entire point of the film? The Idiots do what they do because they have nothing left to lose. Absolutely nothing. You can only break free from social rules and even more extreme things if you have absolutely nothing to lose. People would maybe consider but still hesitate to go in a spazz after a humiliation or whatever, yet this is how the film ends.

I think it's obvious most of them were from well off families or had professional careers themselves so in fact they actually had something to lose. They were successful and still unhappy with their lives. Part of becoming the Idiots meant actually losing those middle-class achievements and become spazzers full-time. That's why they had to start spazzing with their families and at their jobs. The advertising guy, and the art teacher couldn't do that so they left.
