What I felt this film was about..

My consensus of this film is a group of people who see the destructiveness behind conformity and banality of everyday life and the society we live in. So in an attempt to push past that they embrace their "inner idiot". And welcoming this side of themselves allows them to express the true spirit of their being beyond the constraints of the world around them.

Josephine's father coming to bring her back home solidifies the idea of there being a specific way to act and be, and society's outside influence on what is acceptable.

Karen felt a connection towards the group as a way to avoid the pain of her loss son and that's why she found such joy in becoming a part of them. But her family is unwilling to accept her individual pain holding theirs above hers, thus outcasting her in the end.

Really interested on what others think about this idea. Thanks!
