shareVon Trier pulls the most amazing, absolutely transcendant performances out of his cast.
The Idiots is a great example.
Also see Dancer in the Dark and Breaking the Waves.
Bjork and Emily Watson are both incredible.
Both easily deserved Academy awards for thier performances.
"The Idiots" is a great film, but I think it shows how provacative the Dogme genre really is. The idiots itself had many flaws that I won't go into. What it did do was take Lars von Trier to a whole new level. His next two films, Breaking the Waves and Dancer in the Dark, are phenomonal films that can be attributed to the lessons learned from The Idiots. It took von Trier out of his "rut". So THANK GOD he did this movie, because Breaking the Waves and Dancer in the Dark are, in my eyes, a couple of the greatest films EVER made. Truly phenomonal.

Sorry to be such a wiseguy but "Breaking The Waves" came before "The Idiots". Not the other way around.
