It's hard to tell if it's the ACTUAL actors and actresses, or stand-ins, or -- if it IS the real actors, which I thought it was supposed to be -- WHICH of them it is, from the way it's shot ("tight", if I may make a funny)

I know someone whos studying about Dogma films and Lars Von Trier. I was told that..yes, it was indeed real..and the most shocking of all..was that Lars was wanking off by the corner. Crazy huh? (I didnt said, I beleived it)
shareActually if you read the interview with LVT on the Dogma95 website (think its dogme95.dk) he claims that it was stand ins (perhaps porno actors? I dunno, he didn't say) for the brief hardcore shots and that was his biggest transgression he made against the Dogma95 manifesto. Unless he is fooling us and it was the real actors. Nothing was mentioned about LVT spanking it in the corner while the orgy was taking place.

The thing that I can't understand is what made an actor (who is not a porno star) to play in a hardcore scene in a movie like this;Fame, money I don't think show. I don't have any problem with Hardcore scenes (in fact I like them ) but I can't stand this humiliation in the name of "art"! If you want to play in a hardcore movie become a porno star!
I also read the Dogma 95 rules and I believe the whole thing is stupid. I did like the "breaking the waves" and "Dogville" but I believe LVT named this movie "The Idiots" because it is an idiot movie and the man who created is an Idiot himself.And maybe all of us who've seen it and still discuss it are also Idiots.

A Danish friend of mine tells me that Anne Louise Hassing was a famous porn star in Denmark before she was in the Idiots. she definately did some real porn acting in thsi film.

Anne Louise Hassing has definitely NEVER been a porn star! If you look closely, you can see that it is actually her leaning back towards the woman involved in the real sex, and that woman is hiding her upper body from the camera. Hassing would definitely have to be some sort of contortionist if she really did this.
Trine Michelsen has never made any hard core porn movies either (to my knowledge). She has, however, been a nude model for many years.
This may be Denmark, but hey, there are limits to what (non porn) actors will do on screen! Sorry to kill your fantasies, guys!
We studied this film in film studies at college, and apprently they were stand ins for the sex scene.
But surely if they were stand up it kind of contradicts the idea of a dogma film?

Lars Von Trier gives a list of "confessions", namely things in the movie that are forbidden under the dogman manifesto. There are a lot of what I would call trivial things, like moving a candle (I kid you not!), but the big one in his own words is "I confess to have used a stand-in in the case only (the sexual intercourse scene)"
So there it is, what interests me, however, is why he would have done this, after all he is one of the main leaders of the dogma movement and it seems a pretty big breach of the dogma philosophy. I can only guess that he was making some kind of challenge against UK/US censorship, but ultimately who knows.

sharei hat a lars von trier seminar last year. as far as i remember there is hardly a movie out there who didn't break a few rules of the dogma manifest. even in "festen" (the first official dogma) they moved curtains or placed artificial lights sometimes. As far is i know its the directors choice to see his movie as dogma if he wants to and he hasnt broken to much rules.
shareYes, I'm pretty sure all of the directors involved in the making of the dogma films have broken the rules here and there. Bringing up "festen" again, one of the rules was not to give the director credit (so the movie stands on its own), but the director actually made an appearance in the film as the cab driver. He was also mentioned in the credits.
shareJup, the hardcore actors were standins. It is understandable tho. Doing a hardcorescene in a movie could ruin their chances of breaking through the commercial market, and it would perhaps have been too much for LvT to demand the go trough with it...

How would it ruin them commercially? Chloe Sevigne really sucked off vincent gallo in the brown bunny until he came on her, and Sasha gray has been in huge gangbangs and drank milk out of a girls ass and she got to be in a Steven Soderbergh movie.
