Even though she was guilty of turning a blind eye he was the one who committed the acts. I don't like how directors constantly use abuse, or she was not strong enough, he dominated her, to let people off the hook. The film wanted him to be punished, that was the goal, without her going down at least simultaneously with him Makes his losing all his kids/grand kids more significant. But I also felt as some have pointed out, that she will pay also.

She was trying to get off the sinking ship that was her husband, pretending like she wasn't a part of it... clearly she was. The kids almost definitely pushed her out of their lives. The mom was just trying to save face with the guests as a coping-with-stress mechanism, smile, pretend everything is fine.

Precisely, she was as much a coward as her husband and needed to suffer for her own culpability. The fact that she attempted to wriggle out of the situation cemented that fact. The siblings deserved better parents than the one's that fortune had bestowed upon them and it's little wonder they ended up so dysfunctional. Her hypocrisy at the end as she refused to leave with him was sickening, particularly when she had only just gone home with home with him the night before and was presumably sleeping in the same bed as him. If she'd had an ounce of decency she'd have left with him, I know that sounds odd but she in my opinion had made her bed and she should have been left to sleep in it with him. That is until his inevitable arrest which wouldn't have been a long time coming.
