It really is a great sequel - in fact better than the original film, Unexpected Family. Stockard once again works wonders in the role, however, the labour scene has put me off ever having children - it was like something out of the Exorcist - slightly overacted and unrealistic IMHO. My only criticism though - I really love this film and Stockard is great in it.

Just watched this film again last night. Didn't like it much the second time around. Where did these people get the money to buy the gorgeous old house in the country with guest house and studio, etc.? I didn't get the sense that either of the people were really artists; maybe painting as a hobby or because they passionately like to paint but how could they pay the bills?
I thought the labor scene was pretty accurate but I think the Stockard Channing character would have automatically thought of and demanded drugs. Then again, everything about this movie was so darned politically correct, maybe not.
So, no, it's not one of my top 100 movies; not even top 500. However, I love love LOVE Elaine Stritch.
I really enjoyed the scene where her son tries to be affectionate and hug her and she acts like she's having a root canal. What a fantastic character!
