Quite good.
I disagree with the opinions of the film. I saw the film twice -- once at Slamdance Film festival in a sold out showing and once in San Francisco.
I heard the director and cast speak and have seen other films on skinheads and specials on cable. I think the film captures the violent world of neo-nazi skinhead street gangs quite well.
For example -- in Portland, OR where I grew up -- three Ethiopians were attacked by six skinheads in an apartment complex garage and a thickly built skin known as "Ken Death" cocked a baseball bat over his shoulder and as he was cheered on -- swung it full force into the back of each man's head, again...and again...like a wood chopper gone berserk. Next came the 'boot party' where each skinhead stomped each person to oblivion... What I'm quoting is a true story from Portland, a city dubbed the "skinhead capital of the world" and from which the stories in the film are based.
The film is supposed to be violent, angry, ugly and challenging. And I liked the melting of themes -- from the Good, the Bad and the Ugly to Menace II Society, Scorcese and John Woo's the Killer...
I like the film because like Romper Stomper it's not trying to be glossy -- which is one of my criticisms of American History X which in my opinion contains one the silliest scnes of all time -- Crip gangbangers playing basketball in Venice Beach against Skinheads -- that's unrealistic.
That being said -- the film is violent and not everyone's cup of tea. But for fans of Grindhouse, 300, Crank, The Wild Bunch and other violent films -- I think you will respect the film.
Just a different opinion.
