What is Samir's ethnicity supposed to be?
I guess it's kind of a random question but I'm just wondering

shareI assumed he was Indian.

I don't think he's Indian. I have met plenty of Indian people and they sound nothing like him. India is in Asia. I'm thinking he's from somewhere in the Middle East but I don't know where.
shareI assumed Pakistani, but I don't etch that in stone
I also assumed he is Muslim, based on when Peter says to him God, Allah or whatever, and Samir nods in agreement
It's his last name that made me assume he was supposed to be Indian. My husband is an engineer and works with many Indian men. They have names that sound similar to Samir's.
My husband is Muslim and Samir's last name is NOT consistent with people with Arab/Muslim names. I was confused about this as well.

Anyone can be Muslim, but his accent sounds closer to someone who is Turkish. That is definitely not an Indian speaking English.

They sound nothing like him because he's a *beep* American actor putting on an accent.
I thought South Indian specifically
shareI know a few Pakistani men that are named Amir, so I am assuming that Samir is just an alternate spelling for the name. Such as how Steven can also be Stephen.
shareYeah Saudi (they mention Riyadh once, and also his accent is more of an Arabic speaker than an Indian Subcontinent fella).
But I am curious why they chose Saudi? There are hardly any Saudi software engineers. Also Ajay Naidu is Indian origin, they didn't chose an Arabic origin actor.
Moreover Saudi Arabia is reasonably well off, not that poor that many native Saudis migrate to US for a better life.
He sounds Turkish. There is actually one security guard at my work that has a fair complexion, but yet talks like Samir does in the film. He is definitely portrayed as a Middle Eastern individual. Indians would have garbled English or none at all. My parents are both Indian and they speak clear English with no accent.
