The Package He Sent to Ferrin?

Call me slow. I was half asleep by the time I got to the end of the film. I was just wondering what exactly was in the manilla envelope he put in the mail box addressed to Ferrin (Jeanine Garrifallo)? And why did he do this?

I believe he put his hair in there. Did he want her to find out who he really was?

He put a strand in the envelope to give HER and the police a clue.

He thought to himself that he wasn't making enough mistakes, and the thrill was leaving him as the police were never close to catching him. Although throughout the entire movie, he fantasized about being caught.

He even marveled that he had made two mistakes in the same murder, even though no one even got a clue from it.

He said in the end of the movie, that he thought it was amazing there wasn't more violence in the US.

Btw, the first time the female cop woke him at the beach was the same cop in the end, but that was merely a fantasy at the end, just another thought of him being scared, and pondering why the cops were never on his trail. He was again free.

I didn't like that they put this in the movie. Come on, it was a single strand of hair. Ferrin, like most other people, probably would have opened the envelope, saw nothing, and thrown it away. She probably didn't even see the hair.

I don't think the cop at the end was imaginary but I could be wrong... unless i missed something there is no evidence to say she wasn't real...?

I think the policewoman at the end was real, too. She was checking him out, presumably in view of the murders and she cruises at night so was checking things out. She sort of smiles after a while before exiting the highway, because she remembers him. He was that nice young man she found sleeping in his truck on the beach.

I think the police was real and he sent the envelope/clue with his hair to Ferrin, for the police lady at the end. In his mind criminals always leave some sort of clue so he chose the clue to leave behind.

Piss.
