No, actually, I don't agree. The scenario is the same. Rival gangs, and love interests. And with West Side Story as a musical, Bollywood produced the same kind of energy just by being itself. And there was clearly additional work with the Romeo and Juliet theme. West Side Story came from R&J but this came from both.
However, there are important differences in the dynamics. Shirley is much more into supporting the Eagles than Maria or Juliet ever are for their side. Rahul wins her over with almost Gandhi-giri tactics.
Is it related to West Side Story? Of course. Is it a copy? It had the potential to be, but chose not to be.
