Favorite scenes? (may contain spoilers)

I adore this movie. There are so many beautiful scenes. I love a lot of them, but I think my favorite is when Sameer is leaving and Nandini runs to the balcony. She doesn't move even when her mother starts dragging her away. I cry every time I see it.

This film, no doubt, will be a Hindi classic!!! Great film although I reallt felt bad for Sameer...

reply

Me too, the movie didn't end as I'd hoped, it was sad, frustrating, and i felt so bad about the whole sameer thing.

I just saw this movie on sbs in australia as i'm sure cherryhill_temple did as well seeing as your post was only half an hour ago.

I thought this was a good movie, good music and dancing, and some of the acting was ordinary but there were seens when I was amazed, especially at Aishwarya Rai's performance. It's good to see good bollywood movies, not like that dribble that sbs showed last week, Main Hoon Na.

It didn't turn out the way I thought it would from the start, but 20 minutes from the end it becomes obvious what will happen. It's a shame though that Nandini going to Italy makes her happy but absolutely crushes Sam in the process. That's love I guess, I hope SBS keeps showing movies of this quality

reply

I saw it on SBS too, but I personally didn't like this one very much. I liked the whole "twist" (ahem) of it, I thought it was pretty realistic, but I ddin't like the shift in tone. I spose that was deliberate, to reflect her change in attitude, but going from people-dancing-and-singing-like-they're-drunk to heart-wrenching emotion really didn't work in this film. Maybe it's just me. Good acting from that Vanraj dude ( I don't remember his name), as well as from Aishwarya Rai. I found Salman Khan's performance somewhat overdone though.

But, out of all the Bollywood movies SBS showed, I've only seen Lagaan, bits of Main Hoon Na, the end of Devdas, and this. Lagaan has got to be the best one.

I saw this on SBS too.

I was gritting my teeth for the first hour, Sameer was such a ditzy, manic, overacted character ... thank heaven for the fact that Nandini woke up to herself at the end! ... and the movie was able to finish with a very satisfactory ending.
Thoughtful and sensitive, I found this movie quite touching, but I have to say, it's no Main Hoon Na (last week on SBS), which I thought was great and has to be one the funniest movies that I have seen in my entire life! LOL! It's been a great set of Indian movies on SBS, but it was a shame that they didn't show Paheli, Swades or Parineeta, which are some of my favourites.

Anyway, back to this movie, ... yes, the mix up with Hungary and Italy was a bit strange, to say the least ... but the *weirdest moment in the film* award would surely have to go to Sameer's farting incident, which was completely bizarre!!! What the ???

As for my *favourite scene* ... I liked the rehearsed greeting Sameer had when he met Nandini's father. Lol! :¬)

reply

LOL! the farting scene was quite bizarre!

out of all the movies SBS has shown this month, this was actually the only one that i didn't really end up liking. but i think it may have something to do with the fact that i dislike Salman Khan and so was a bit biased. didn't really get into it like all the others, and didn't really find the songs to be that catchy either. could be just me...

reply

I loved the ending... it was so romantic. ^_^ I wanted her to be with Sameer for the first half of the movie. After Vanraj had the "I'm taking her to italy to find her lover, because i love her" with his father i started wanting him to get the girl as they say. The scene on the train when Vanraj and Nandini embrace is powerful, because it shows the most major change between them. While i did feel sorry for Sameer, i feel that since he is such a passionate person, he should not have to much trouble falling in love again.

I just wished the movie went on a little longer so we could see some more "love" scenes between Vanraj and Nandini. The end was very sweet, and real i found.

Claps to Ajay Devgan and Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan for the beautiful preformance.

I just wish i knew where to find this on DVD.

reply

i watched this on SBS too, but for the last 45 minutes i fell asleep!!! could anyone please tell me what happened at the end, after Nandini got shot and after Sameer and Vanraj met at the church??????

reply

Awwww the last 45min Were the best! LOL

ummmm well... Vanraj carrys Nandini after she is shot to try and get help for her, but no cars were stopping. Finally someone stooped, and she was rushed to IC. but you already know all that.... ummmm well, Vanraj returns to Nandini and tells her that she has been discharged, and he helps her get ready to go. While they are doing that, Vanraj starts humming the song Sameer sang with him. Nandini has a fit, and Vanraj goes running back to see if he can find Sameer. He dosent, and he returns to Nandini empty handed. He promises her that they will go to where he sings the next day, but Nandini reminds him that they have no money left. He says they are going money or no money.
The next day they catch the train, but don't have a ticket. as the ticket man comes toward them, Nandini suggests doing what the other couple were doing on the train the other day. after saying that she walks into Vanraj's arms and they embrace. the ticket man goes into a fit, but Vanraj and Nandini don't hear him. Vanraj looks like he's in heven, kissing Nandinis neck, but he also looks sad. Nandini has a strange look on her face, like she has just realised something. They must stay that way for the whole trip, because they are still holding each other when the train pulls up. As they pull away it looked like they were about to kiss..... but they didn't :(. they go to they bar thing, but Sameer is not there. the bar man gives them a free bottle of wine, and some foke dancing starts. Vanraj is coned by the bar man to do some dancing (think german foke dancing) and this makes Nandini laugh. After a while the bar man announces that it's time for husband/wife dancing. Vanraj and Nandini just look at each other for a while, and Vanraj turns away looking sad once more. suddenly Nandini is standing right behind him....

I'll continue this in another reply below this... this computer crashes a lot, and i don't wanna lose all this stuff that i've written.

reply

Nandini takes his hand, and they start doing some kind of foke/waltz thing. They smile and laugh, and seem to forget about Sameer for a while.

when they leave, Vanraj is a bit drunk, and this makes him a lot more 'open'. he keeps asking Nandini if he can tell her something, but then says "nothing".
He goes into a rant about how happy Nandini will be with Sameer, and how happy he will be when she's happy. Nandini looks sad through this, and dosen't say much.
Vanraj then says that he will come vist them sometimes. He will scream her name from the brige (theres a big brige behind them) he says, and he hopes she will remember his voice. he then starts 'showing' what he will do by yelling Nandini name into the night. Nandini looks like she is about to cry, and so does Vanraj. He walks back over to her, and burrys his head into the crook of Nandini's neck.

Next we see is Vanraj sleeping on the hotel bed, with Nandini sleeping facing him, half sitting on the foor, half on the bad . the screen goes blank.

Nandini wakes up, and Vanraj is not on the bed anymore. she looks around, and see's him standing by the window. she goes to him, and he says sorry for last night, he can't remember what he said. She replys that someone can say a lot when they say nothing. (theres a hint there i think lol) they do the whole "can i ask/tell you something" thing again, with out really getting anywhere.Vanraj looks like he is going to say something big, him and Nandini are looking at each other hard,....... then the phone rings..

contined in another reply ;)

Vanraj answers. It's Sameer's Mother. She says that Sameer is having a music/play thing at some opera house that night. She hasen't told Sameer about Nandini yet, but she will soon. she gets all excited about them getting together again and what not, and says she will see them tonight.

Vanraj agrees and hangs up. he looks sad again, but tells Nandini about meeting Sameer tonight. She dosent look happy or sad, she just keeps looking at Vanraj.

When they are getting ready that evening, Nandini sits by the mirror putting the finishing touches to her outfit (a beautiful red sari with a black shawl) when she gets out her marrige beads, she looks at them for a while, then puts them in a pocket thing in her sari. she walks out into the lounge area, and sees Vanraj putting his over shirt on. She walks up to him, and help's him put it on. they stand together for a moment, with her hands on his shoulders. Vanraj pulls away, and says it's time to go.

they get into a taxi, Nandini in the back, Vanraj in the front. A song starts up about how a woman gives her heart to the man, and the man gives his heart to a woman.
Nandini keeps on looking at the back of Vanraj's head, and starts smilling a little bit.
he turns around and sees her looking. He gives her a small smile back.
he then goes into "daydream" land. in it he and Nandini are walking along the river again, with the brige in the back ground. Vanraj has a camera, and askes to take a photo of Nandini. When he does, Nandini comes up and takes the camera off him, and askes a passing person if they will take a picture of her and Vanraj together.
The man agrees, and then says for them to stand close with their arms around eachother.

Just as the picture is being taken, someone starts screaming "Nandini" from the brige. Nandini and Vanraj turn around to see Sameer running across the brige to them. Nandini starts laughing and crying, and then runs away from Vanraj, into Sameers arms.

Vanraj 'wakes up' from this daydream just as the taxi pulls up in frount of the opera house.

ARRGGGGGHHHHHHHH i had the whole reply thing done and my computer shut down by itself!!! ARGH angry >:(

ahem.... anyway..

Nandini and Vanraj walk into the opera house, where Sameer's Mother greets them. She starts draging Nandini to meet Sameer, but Nandini pauses and starts to bend down to touch Vanraj's feet. He stops her, and just looks at her for a moment.
She looks back at him while she walks away, untill he is out of site.

Vanraj keeps looking at the door where Nandini went through. He ducks his head for a moment and when he looks up again, his eyes are full of tears. He turns and walks out of the building.

Sameer's Mother leads Nandini onto the stage, then leaves her there. Suddenly, Sameer is above her in the seats and calling out to her. She gives him a sad smile.
He runs down the steps to her, and takes her into his arms. She does not return his embrace. he senses something is wrong...
He asks her whats up, and she thanks him for teaching her how to love. She then says that she has learned a lot since he last saw her. She has learned that love is giving and scracifice, finally learned what the wedding vow's mean. Sameer looks confused. She then says that her husband has taught her what love truely is, and shows him her marriage beads. Sameer is shocked, he didn't know she was married. Then it hits him, the man he meet in the church is her husband. He tells her this, and that her husband is a good man and loves her. She smiles at this.

Nandini then asks Sameer for his blessing and permission for her to go back to her husband.

He gives it to her, then wishes her the best of luck.
Nandini smiles sadly, but walks away fast.
Sameer is deverstated, and his mother comes back to comfort him. He blames his father, but isn't bitter to Nandini and Vanraj.

We then see Vanraj walking down the bridge with tears streaming down his face. He thinks that Nandini is still with Sameer, but what he dosent know is she is running down the lobby of the opera house into the street. She keeps on running till she gets to the bridge, and see him. She starts running again, and Vanraj hears her footseps. He turns and looks at her, shocked.
She walks to within an arms reach of him, and asks him "Can i ask you something?" when he says what, she replys "Must you go?"

he looks hopeful, and is finally able to tell her what he has been trying to the whole trip.

Vanraj: "can i tell you something?"
Nandini: "what?"
Vanraj: "I cannot live without you"

They look deep into each others eyes, and Nandini then lifts both her fists. She asks him to chose a hand. He picks her left. She gives him a dazzaling smile and opens her hand, and her marriage beads are in it.

Vanraj picks then up, and slowly puts them back on around her neck. He smiles brighty, and they both have tears of joy falling dowm their faces.
Nandini throws herself into his arms, and they hold each other tight as fire works light up the sky (;D a typical Bollywood ending)

and as the saying goes "Vanraj and Nandini lived happily ever after" ^_^

I saw it on SBS too, but it was getting late and i had a class in the morning so I recorded it and was watching it the next day when the tape finished when they were going to finally see sameer and i was so pissed off and searching for the movie (i didn't even know it's name) today. So thatnk-you so much for posting that, I had told all my friends about the movie and they kept asking me what happened in it. I'm going to go rent it now!

This will always be my favorite movie. My favorite scene is after Sameer and Nandini get caught by her father and she is yelling at her mother about how much she loves him and cannot live without him. That scene makes me cry everytime. I also love the scene where we first meet Vanraj during Nimbooda, I love how awe struck he looks over Nandini and the last scene that really moved me the first time I saw it was when Nandini gets shot. I froze and gasped when I first saw that part.

I actually loved the way this movie ended. At first I felt sorry for Sameer but as the movie went on I became less and less concerned with him. And, when Nandini and Sameer meet again in Italy he really annoyed me and I just wanted her to be with Vanraj because I fell in love with his charactor's devotion.

reply

oh my favorite scene is definitely in the song Aakhon ki Gustakheiyan... when Nandini (aishwarya), speaking of naive her haert beginning to yearn for love, she quietly rans off to the corner cyly and cries it off... she looked so gorgeous in that scene with Sameer coming in to comfort her...

reply

So everyone saw it on SBS and so did I . Loved the movie, I kept crying whenever a scene came on but the fart scene was great - very original. I don't think even SRK could have done such a convincing job than Salman Khan - Sam suited him perfectly. Then again, you are reading a Salman Khan fan's post so ...

I could see it was Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie though - I've seen Devdas before (not on SBS!!!) and it was the same - very exaggerated, over the top but that's what he intended and thats what he got.

reply

I loved the scene where salman and aishwarya are both by the chandeliar and they meet for the first time and they have this whole eye staring contest, that scene is what great movies are made off, i love, absolutely love this movie

reply

I Adore this Excellent movie too. like many scenes: -when Vanraj dewgan and her new wife Nandini was asleeping and aiswa got angry and Vanraj explain her about honesty.- when Vanraj saw her letters and was going to out nadini from his home. - when they finded a funny singer instead of sameer and Vanraj laghed in bus and nandini to blame him. - end of film nandini runs for Vanraj and nandini and Vanraj understood love each other.

If I'm not mistaken most of the posters in this thread are Australians. To me as an Indian born and living in Amsterdam that is a quite funny in a strange kind of way to hear. To realise that Indian movies are appreciated by non-Indians in other parts of the world too. :)

I love this movie too, there's something about it I love, and to me it's the best Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie there is.

reply

I also saw it on SBS..lol..I never knew so mcuh Aussie's watched Bollywood movies and I personally feel that this movie is one of Ash's best performances...I love the whole concept of this movie... it's just ashame that SBS hasn't shown any Bollywood movies lately...
