Is there a cure for M.S. ?

I know that there wasn't in Jackie's time but what about now?

reply

No there's not.

No cure, but there are several treatments that attempt to slow the progression of the disease but they are not suitable for everyone with MS (there are different types). Stem cell research is promoted a potential way of finding a cure but I'm not holding my breath - look how long they have been trying to cure cancer and much more time, money and effort goes into that!

I have had MS for 12 years but am still walking / speaking normally, working a demanding job and no one would know I had an illness. There are plenty of misconceptions of people with this (and other diseases / disabilities) and a diagnosis is often feared as the end of normality. Mostly because when people find out, they treat you differently. That is why I have only told people on a 'need to know' basis!

Never been alone with a man before, even with my dress on. With my dress off it's most unusual.

No cure yet, but there have been a lot of improvements. A close friend of mine was diagnosed several years ago and is doing very well. Sometimes her joints act up and she has to use an assisted walker. It bothers her because she's in her 20's and most times you only see the elderly using walkers, but she doesn't have to use it often.

There is a Dr. Zamboni in Italy that appears to have made some interesting discoveries about MS and is trying to change the way the disease is perceived and treated. He thinks that the problem is not in the brain but because of the narrowing of arteries that bring blood to the brain.

Here's an article.

It is still experimental but fingers crossed.
