Watson is the most amazing actress ever.

the way the first half of the film builds up a distaste for Jackie as a result of her selfish behaviour is completely diminished with just a glance, a movement or alne delivery by Watson is a testament to her talent. How she didn't win the oscar for this is completely beyond me, but she consistently proves that she is the finest working actress.

More amazing than Bette Davis, Meryl Streep, Katherine Hepburn, Ingrid Bergman, and Vanessa Redgrave?

Wow, that's pretty amazing.

The collective brilliance of all those actresses.

she doesn't have enough performances under her belt to compete with redgrave or davis or hepburn, but on top form (like she is here and in "breaking the waves") i'd easily rank her level with, or even above them.
the sad shame is that she just doesn't seem to get the work anymore. she doesn't get the opportunity to show just what an incredible actress she is.

Davis only had one act, which she repeated from film to film.

thats a bit much. was "whatever happened to baby jane" much like "jezebel"? or "all about eve" like "dark victory"? or "dangerous" like "now voyager"? or "the letter" like "of human bondage"? she certainly had her own mannerisms which often came into her performance, but you really can't say the woman didn't have range.
id agree with you on hepburn though, with the exception of her performances in "the lion in winter" and "the african queen" which are trully outstanding.

Emily Watson gives a terrific performance in this film. The one-two punch of "Breaking the Waves" and then this film instantly vaulted her into my top 10 list of favorite actresses.

She was nominated for an Oscar for both of those performances, and I thought she should have won for Breaking the Waves. (I do love Frances McDormand in Fargo, but Emily clearly gave the outstanding performance that year.)

She's amazing. She's been working steadily since then, but never really kept up the momentum. Still, I think she's brilliant in everything she does, it's always nice to see her in a film. Wish she'd get more recognition!
