Mystifying ending

Not at all clear what was meant to have happened at the end there: was the van carrying "torture equipment", or was it simply used computers for Africa that, in their enthusiasm, Gregory & co. had mistaken for torture equipment? It's not even clear to me if Rowan was actually making torture equipment at all -- was that ever explicitly confirmed, or do we just assume it from the last circumlocutory conversation Gregory had with Rowan? And if it was torture equipment, why trash it instead of taking it to, say, a national newspaper?

What a strange career Forsyth's had:
1980-84: four great films (That Sinking Feeling, Gregory's Girl, Local Hero, Comfort and Joy)
Fifteen years after 1984: four more films, all more or less awful.
Ten years since 1999: nothing at all.

What a shame.

I had the same thoughts about this movie. I enjoyed it. But it was still strange. I worshipped the first movie since I was a kid. In this movie, all I could keep expecting was a sex scene between Francis and Gregory since there was a "coming of age" chemistry between the two. At times it reminded me of the chemistry we saw in "Wanda Nevada" and the ending of that movie made you wonder as well.

Young Bonny and Mr. Clyde. There's ya a good idea for a controversial "team" that goes beyond your average criminal pact.
