how many executions take place in this documentary?

reply

In full? I'm not sure, maybe four that we get really involved in. There are doaens of other images and short videos from executions too though, but don't be mistaken into thinking it's just execution after execution, it's not that kind of movie. It's mostly a history of the death penalty and a study on "humane" ways to do it.

If you're thinking about seeing it, simply put you should, but be warned, the last scene is the absolute hardest thing in cinema history to watch.

But I guess that's the point.

spoil me the last scene please :D

Alright. It's a man being shot dead. They lay him on the ground with a blindfold on and the camera is zoomed in on his face. He is shot and it blows the blindfold off and destroys the right hand side of his face; it looked like it had been burned and melted. But the man is still alive and looking into the camera, moving his mouth a little and they shoot him some more. It takes about a minute for him to die.

hmm.. is that a scene where a white-dressed and blindfolded man laid down on the ground, and then some man fire him with AK-47 ? but at the first several shot on the body, he didn't die. After that, the executioner made a hole on his left / right side of the face. I think it was happened in Iraq / Iran or similiar place like Iran.

reply

I think so, that sounds about right. I'm just not too eager and check for you. It was a middle eastern country though.

That scene was totally f ucked. I was about 17 when I saw this for the first time and it really upset me. The way the flap on his face is going in and out as he breathes, and his mother being there to whitness the whole thing, totally gut wrenching.

there is no 'flap' going in and out as he breathes. It was a clean shot to the cheek, ripping the flesh clean off.

There are quite a lot of famous military executions in this docco, including the only video footage ive ever seen of Nazis shooting Jews and then falling into a trench. In one scene several Shanghai civilians are shot in the back of the head at close range one after another, a vietcong is executed while shouting political slander, a guiloteen execution, electric chair execution (the first of its kind). Its mostly shooting executions, but it follows the development of how people are executed, the time it takes for the person to fully die, the effectivness of the execution.

Its very interesting to know that one of the reasons for the Nazis to create the gas chamber, is because the people carring out the executions/murders were quite often splattered with blood, which lead onto the solider becoming traumatised after thousands of executions.

Does it mention in the documentary why he was executed? Sounds *beep* nasty.

There's no flap...as he dies he is trying to take breaths and the movement is that of his jaw opening and closing.
