Weird + Wrong

I tried to like to movie. I was supposed to study it in english last year (I consquently dropped that paper because I hated it so much), so I did try to like it. But it seemed to be a lot about camera/lighting/music techniques, less about plot and more worriedly character. There was nothing to connect with.

Kinsky, for example, he was replusive and weird and Shandurai wasn't any better. There weren't likable, I couldn't even symphathise or relate to them.

And selling his piano? Why would you do that? That wasn't romantic, Kinsky wasn't romantic, he had some screwed up notions of love.

And just all the weird elements combined. It was just too much. I really disliked this film.

I'm sure you will all brush me off, saying I didn't get it. And I didn't. But what was there to get?

yes it was a very weird film, and kinsky was very screwed up on many levels, but that weird warped isolated world they were living in was fascinating...and for whatever reason it really affected me.

I freely admit that I just didn't care for "Besieged," which I consider the weakest Bertolucci film I've seen thus far. It started on the wrong note (I can't articulate it, but that's how I felt) and didn't get much better. The Kinsky character may have been meant to be sympathetic, but he just struck me as a creep, and if I were Shandurai I'd find some other guy to work for. I'm sorry, but this movie just didn't work for me. It just felt...off. That's the best I can do right now. All I could think of when watching it was how much better "Last Tango in Paris" was by comparison.
