I Don't Get This ?

When a parent leaves , especially in the way Anne's father left her, why do children blame the parent that is there as they should be , trying to keep food in their stomach and clothes on their back ? I will never understand that. Also , to upset her mother about the scratch on the car again later , she says " Mother, it's just a scratch on the car " . Little twat. I'd find Hishan and take him to court just so I could give Anne to him.

I don't know that she was blaming her Mom for giving her clothes and food in Wisconsin. It was that she didn't provide her with food, clothes, etc. because of her flights of fantasy in Calif. In Wisconsin, she had a home, grandparents, step-dad, aunt, uncle, best friend, adored cousin - and food and clothes. In Calif, she had an apartment with no electricity at times, and a Mom who solved issues with ice cream - which she, symbolically, also couldn't provide. As for the car scratch, even the teen knew her mom had bigger problems that the scratch. In the end, she turned out okay and saw that her Mom was doing the best she could. And she also learned on her own and in her own way that her birth father was a jerk. So all those single parents - just hang in there. Your kids will figure it out in their own time.

Because that parent is the one who's still there and it's easy to take out your anger on them. Also since you don't have an understanding of how relationships work, you think they must have done something wrong.
