Every phone's the same

"You hit Arthur?" -"I hit him... and he died of it."

reply

Yes

This is symbolic of

i) limited production budgets in 1972 and
ii) it really was like that in the 70s, every phone was the same make and model in the UK (and presumably the Netherlands)

reply

There was time all phones were the same. Available in red, black, grey, blue, green and white.

If you were rich you had a trim phone.

Its that man again!!

reply

Especially in an office environment. You didn't even get a choice of colour.

reply

In The US you could buy one of those fancy French looking telephones that looked like an antique, cream colored with gold trim. But since Bell had a monopoly they insisted that you replace the inside of your phone with their parts.

The excuse was that yours was probably crap that might "injure" their system. The government broke their monopoly and over the decades they have slowly stitched the corpse back together with mergers and buy outs just like Standard Oil has done.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else
