DVD release?

I see that BCI is releasing all sorts of classic Filmation shows on DVD but no Tarzan. They have Zorro and Lone Ranger scheduled which used to be part of his show when it aired. As well as they as releasing the classic Blackstarr but no sign of the most classic Filmation series, Tarzan. Anybody know what is up with that? When is the Burroughs estate going to release the rights for this series and the live-action series starring Ron Ely to be released on DVD???

C'mon Burroughs lets see some classic Tarzan fare on DVD!!!

I had read it was coming out sometime this spring. Keep an eye out.

I hope that this show comes out on DVD sometime soon. I have checked the TVtoDVD website and still no mention of it. I loved this show as akid.

ER (who BCI licenses from) doesn't have the rights, so they can't do it.

Anyone wonder if Disney made Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. bury this series as part of the movie deal?

I hope not, as I love this series, and would happily pay for even an expensive DVD release.

I'd thought of going bootleg on this, but with BCI doing a first rate job of all these filmation releases it will most definitely be worth the wait. In the mean time, I'll buy all their other stuff I like to help let them know I want Tarzan as well. This was among the best cartoons I remember watching as a child. Like so many others-Land of the Lost, etc-when it would come on I'd plant myself in front of the TV and not move until it was over. It really made me feel good to watch it. I have no doubt it stands the test of time.

Anyway, keep em coming BCI!! You guys rock!!

Yeah, I wanted to get the BCI version, too; however, I read the rights were with ERB's estate, so I bought the series bootlegged off eBay. The quality's crap, but it seems to be pretty much the complete series. It had been so long since I'd seen them, I'd forgotten how well-done some of the stories were.

I bought a ton of the BCI stuff. I've been real happy with their treatment of these old Filmation cartoons. I cannot stress enough how great those releases are. You can get both Lone Ranger and Zorro, which played alongside Tarzan, for really cheap now. Get them while they are still available! Mine haven't arrived in the mail yet, but I did get Flash Gordon and Blackstar, and both are very enjoyable and look great. Dungeons & Dragons too! I forgot how high quality these old cartoons are. Although I feel like I need an overdose of super=sugared breakfast cereal, candy and soda, to fully appreciate their fast pace! Hahaha!

I'm shopping for a good bootleg myself of Tarzan. Will most likely grab a set within a few months. Sorry yours isn't too good. I've heard there are sets that look pretty good!

Warner Bros. released one episode to DVD, "Tarzan and the Colossus of Zome," on "Saturday Morning Cartoons: 1970s Volume 1."

WB used to distribute the show for TV outside of North America, so that's probably how they have the rights. The print used looks like it's 16mm; they probably only have the film materials Filmation gave them back in the 70s.

reply

Yes, I believe WB owns the rights to this Filmation series. I hope they come to their senses and decide release the series.

I only paid $20 when I bought it at Big Apple Comic Con. But my discs do have some unwatchable glitches. Thanks for the website!

I woudn't be surprised if it ended up released via the Warner Archives. I do know that some of the Filmation stuff that Warner controls was not in good shape.
