Sorry to weirdly bring this up...

The other day I was watching a gameshow on TV, and it said 'In 1994, which children's TV show was accused of gang warfare?' and the answer was Postman Pat. It all seems really weird really, but I've been looking for examples of this on the internet but I couldn't find anything to do with it.

Is this true?

late reply i know but what was the show?

Eggheads or something, I'm British by the way.

I think it had something to do with him having 4 fingers (like most cartoon characters do). The Japanese gangsters have 4 fingers.

reply

Oh, well that makes sence.

Maybe it was the episode where Pat wakes up to find the head of his black and white cat at the foot of his bead.

What episode was that?

I am going to laugh at that last post, assuming to myself that you're going along with my sarcastic tone.

It was due to the fact that in Japan that the Yakuza (Japanese mafia) show respect if they've made a mistake by cutting a finger off. So Pat, missing a finger on each hand, was banned in Japan as they thought he'd disrespected the Yakuza and sacrificed two fingers to show his honour.

Quite how they thought that the Yakuza would be operating in Greendale is quite beyond me or that Pat would be attached (i mean it's obvious he's a member of Al Quaida!!)

They also banned it in middle America as Ted Glen lives alone, has a bushy moustache and listens to Judy Garland...Go figure!!

'I charge a flat rate plus expenses...And my expenses are expensive...'

Is The Simpsons also banned in Japan then? As I seem to remember from when I used to watch it that they had four fingers.

The world is your lobster.

Who remembers the Peter Fogg Kerb crawling episode?

reply

yes I saw the harry enfield parody- il postino. didnt think it was very funny apart from the pseudo-animated jerky movements

Even Chucklevision made fun of this incident. There was an episode where Barry was watching Postman pat and all you can hear is gunshots on the TV and he says "it's certinly has changed"
