December 31, 2999

In the pilot episode, Fry comes out of his freeze on December 31, 2999. In the episode, Bender tells him the museum is free on Tuesdays. December 31, 2999 will be a Tuesday. I never noticed that before.

In theory! What if an asteroid hits earth, pushes it a few degrees out of orbit, and now there are 10 days a week?

But yes, there are a lot of hidden little jokes like that in this show, particularly because David X. Cohen was very fond of math.

Earth is not strong enough to be pushed around like that without breaking into pieces. Just like the moon is not strong enough to be shot out of orbit and into interstellar space without shattering in Space 1999.

So don't worry about that happening and changing the calendar before 2999.

That is very interesting! Thanks for sharing the link. I'd never heard of the doomsday date. Now, I'll use that when I need it, probably only for the current year or near future.
