Honestly no better shark movie since

As far as shark movies go I really liked this one and I can fairly say there hasn't been a better one since.

reply

I can Honestly say I agree. There really hasn't been one since.

I've been playing this movie like once a week on Netflix for my sons since they've developed some shark movie fetish.

I have nothing else to offer when they ask for anything new and Jaws has too much boring parts for them.

reply

Yep, there's been nothing better since, Deep Blue Sea remains the third greatest killer-shark movie there is, after Jaws and Jaws 2. Other than those three there isn't anything else worth watching really.

I'm rolling along like a train. Only Denzel can stop me now!

For my money DBS is far and away the 2nd best shark movie ever.

It's a fun high concept popcorn movie that defies expectations and delivers with unexpected heart.

If only you could see what I have seen through your eyes.

reply

Definitely not available on Netflix.

reply

Maybe it depends on where in the world you live.
I live in Sweden and just finished watching it - on Netflix.

-If made by George Lucas, this would be re-released 3 times - and by now be mostly cgi.

reply

It's available on the pirate bay and on usenet.

DBS sports my favorite shark species.....the mako. the quintessencial malevolent looking shark. They may only reach 12' in length, but they can be quite aggressive, & are listed among the top 5 most dangerous sharks after the oceanic whitetip, the tiger shark, the bull shark & the great white.
If you find yourself, it's probably a doppleganger

reply

I don't know, that doesn't really sound right to me. From what I've read there's been less than 50 recorded attacks on humans by Mako Sharks over the past 40 years, and only 3 of them have been fatal. As a pelagic species, their habitat is situated too far from where people usually go swimming or diving for attacks to regularly occur. When encountered though, they're normally very shy and will only attack if provoked.

Open Water is just as good, in a low-budget faux-documentary way.

Jaws and Open Water, unlike DBS, tap into my natural fears. As such, I'd describe DBS as a popcorn movie and the other two as a visceral experience.

Yep, best Shark movie to date (along with JAWS). Remember watching this as a kid and was scared half to death. 12 years later and it is still a great movie. I have probably watched this half a dozen times since. The CGI for its time is superb. We need another!!

reply

i hated open water, it was boring and predictable and I think to qualify as a shark movie there needs to be at least 1 attack.

Unfortunately it's slim pickings aside from the original Jaws and Alligator, most 'giant animal attack' movies are B-grade direct to video. IIRC deep blue sea is the only shark movie since the jaws films released theatrically in the US.

good clean fun and at least had a decent plot and no scenes that are unintentionally funny like other giant animal films.

reply

actually Open Water is an underrated masterpiece.

LOL, 'along' with Jaws? It's not even in the same universe as Jaws. It's not even alongside Jaws 2.

Deep Blue Sea is more or less forgotten.

reply

Forgotten? Not a chance.

It may not have been well received by critics or rated high on IMDb, but it's still well-liked by many fans of creature features and shark fanatics alike.

reply

Even for the time the special effects were pretty lackluster. The script as well. Without Jackson and Jane I wouldn't have sitter through this bore fest.

Check out "the reef"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1320291/

It's an aussie movie that's only got a 5.7 here but it's really pretty good, very tense and realistic.

reply

Thanks for the tip. Just added it to my Queue on Netflix.

Hollywood is way overdue for a shark movie. My ticket money is in my Sharkybank waiting on the brave writer/producer/director/actors to make it. If you make it, they will come....to the movies and give you money.

reply

ofcourse, but jaws is the best

Sharknado is coming out next year!

This movie was quite entertaining the first time around, but it gets substantially worse with each subsequent viewing. For me after about 5 viewings in my entire lifetime I think I'm done with it. The CGI is bad, LL Cool J is in it (and boy is he bad). The only good thing about this movie is Samuel L. Jackson's death scene which is funny.

The only reason there hasn't been a better movie since (which I think is debatable with Open Water and The Reef having come out after I believe) is that all the other movies are dreadful, and not that this is really good.
