Does anyone know who was singing Maggie's songs? Was it Mirren or someone else?
Thanks.

Wow, how amazing it is to know there were other people out there wandering about the same question I had. I love this movie and soulfully loved the sound of Maggie's voice. I found out by doing research on the internet and by viewing the credits at the end of the movie, that it was a performer by the name of Jenny Darren doing the singing. However, I also would love to learn the title of the theme song sung by Darren. I was hoping my question would be answered on this website--it looks though that there are some with the same questions but no one has answered them yet. I am going to try and e-mail PBS and see if someone will respond. Also, I saw a link connected to an informational summary about Darren's music career--I will try them, also. If I find anything out, I will definately respond back.

Yes. Her name is Jenny Darren. I am trying to find her music, but having a hard time. All I get are two CDs she did in 1978. She does not have a website. I would like to get a hold of Maggie's first song in Painted Lady...the one she sings in her cottage while her lover is accompanying her on the guitar...goes like.."When I see (or touch) your face..." PLEASE let me know if you find out something. Tks.

Jennydarren.com has a music clip of "line" from "Painted Lady." By entering the name "Jenny Darren" into Google or looking on Ebay you can find old vinyl records of her albums from the 1970's. Nothing on cd's though.

Apparently she still makes live appearances. Ahe should think about direct sales through the internet. Companies like Clear Channel have thousands of radio stations and a stranglehold on radio time. DJ's no longer have the freedom to pick and choose what is played. They are issued a list of hand picked songs.

Artists like Joan Baez and others of her era cannot get on radio to save their lives. And radio is the key to sales.

I just saw this film / minni series. First half great second half a bummer.
But the voice of miss Darren stands. Sounded so familliar and yet she was unknown to me.
It's only because of her I visited imdb for this movie. Just to find out more about here.
Great voice.
