Of course I'll get alot of backlash from the pretentious "art" community, because they think it makes them cultured if they can accept ANYTHING in "arts" name. So they'll sing the praises of this immoral (W)Ho(re)llywood garbage, that's tries so hard to portray pedophilia, rape, etc, as something to try to identify with. Thus slowly making it less objectionable.

Hollywood has long been carrying Alfred Kinsey's torch for mainstreaming deviant activity and this is just one more example. Reprehensible garbage is what this is! And it's disguised as lighthearted and humorous(to a degree). People need to wake up! They'll be objectively exploring bestiality next... stay tuned!

It's not anyone else's fault that you missed the point. You aren't supposed to identify with the pedophile or even like him. If you do, well, that's something you need to think about. He was portrayed in human terms, which is sympathetic to a point. In other words his perversion wasn't portrayed as sick, but more like "oh, different strokes for different folks." They even portrayed the NAMBLA kids Dad as the hateful hick and whoever spray painted his house was to be seen similarly. It's not anyone else's fault that you missed the point.

The movie is amazing, and doesn't say that pedophillia is good at all. Yes, the portrayal of pedophillia is slightly more sympathetic than in most films, but it is also disturbing, depressing, and disgusting. The film is about the perversions and evils of society, and it is brilliant.

Nothing can do justice to the true evil of pedophilia. The movie wasn't an indictment of Dr. Maplewood's sexual appetite but it certainly wasn't an endorsement of it. His crimes drive his family apart and create a rift between him and his son. At no point did I get the impression Todd Solondz wanted to make pedophilia a mainstream phenomenon.

Solondz depicted pedophilia objectively. Audiences don't need to be told pedophilia is bad; it's a universally acknowledged principle that it is. If the screenplay had directly condemned pedophilia, it would have resembled a PSA and not a linear motion picture. However, Dr. Maplewood's sexual appetites do disintegrate all of his relationships and nearly cost him his life. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of kiddy-fiddling.

I challenge you to show me where I called it a "ringing endorsement." This movement is in the early stages and a "ringing endorsement" would stall their progress, they need to move slowly on sensitive subjects, such as this.

The movie is meant to humanize and even allow us to sympathize with the "kiddy-fiddler." You liberal, (theater/art) types can argue all you want, but I know what I'm talking about. They have to spoon-feed these social changes to us, slowly.

Just like 40 years ago, no one could've imagined that one day(~2010) people would celebrate homosexuality and transgender. Now they're called brave and courageous. No one would've imagined that, but slowly they widdled away(mostly molding the minds of impressionable youth) the resistance and now here we are.

They call it "progressive" or "evolved" because they know, no one wants to be unevolved or backward. Using those words imparts shame or embarrassment which gradually causes people to give up their moral/religious beliefs, in favor of being "progressive," like everyone around them.

This principle is an established fact if you understand causing social change to accept something previously deemed unacceptable or immoral.

Humans themselves serve no purpose whatsoever yet we all still exist. Have your parents explained that to you? Have they also explained that there is no god so there is no reason to fear eternal damnation? Just be a good person, have sex with other consenting adults and don't sexually abuse children. There is nothing immoral or hedonistic about homosexuality unless you consider any other heterosexual relationship hedonistic. Reproduction has nothing to do with it or heterosexuals wouldn't use birth control.

Pedophiles aren't over the top mustache twirling cartoon villains, they are your neighbors, your teachers, your best friends.

When movies try to portray them as some over the top villain it comes across as insulting to the viewer. I didn't sympathize or feel anything but disgust toward the pedobear, I felt bad for his family because of what he was accused of and the way it was going to follow them around as long as they continued to live where they lived.

Also Hollywood has embraced many long time pedophiles such as Woody Allen and Roman Polanski, as well as countless other pedo's that have well known perversions but are protected by the hollywood elites..

I know they are literally human beings and that they aren't mustache twirling cartoon characters, but this movie portrayed him sympathetically as if all he wants to do is find love(as we all do), but with children(as most of us don't). I, like you, was disgusted with the "pedobear" but as you imply, Hollywood is sympathetic to pedos and that's apparent here. They don't have to bathe in feces to be portrayed repulsively. Don't you think this portrayal(and others like it) will soften some anti-pedo attitudes to a small degree? That's my beef!

He doesn't "want to find love", he wants to fulfill extremely disturbing urges that it seems he can't really control. All the other characters in this film are, essentially, just looking for happiness, which he is doing as well.
