Musical?

I had no idea this was out there, is it also a musical like Tim Burton's film?

No it is not. I recently had the pleasure of seeing this production and I can guarantee you I would have wanted to have been in it, but as I was too young and small around the time this was filmed, I wouldn't have understood it.
Kingsley excels at playing the role of the villainous barber, a role he obviously enjoyed. Having seen other productions (including the Burton film) where the chair tips and a trapdoor opens, I did not expect the whole floor to rotate... obviously some top notch mechanical work by the set designers and constructors, they must have had some fun drawing straws to see who tests out the chair first...

I would recommend for musicals, seeing the 1982 touring version with George Hearn as Todd and Angela Lansbury as Lovett. It is the most complete out of all of the musicals IMHO and includes so far to my knowledge all of the songs.

There are three non-musical versions of Sweeney Todd: the 1936 film starring Tod Slaughter (appropriate surname for what his character did), this version and the 2006 version with Ray Winstone as Todd...

I sometimes dream I was Todd... and I tell you, every time I dream I never fail to see the floor rotate with some random celebrity sitting in the chair...
I wish I had been an extra in any of Natalie Gregory's work.
