SNOWFIRE Will Air on TCM in May
2 a.m. May 18 is what the schedule says.
shareThat's GREAT news because it is the first evidence that a broadcast quality copy of the movie still exists! I'll be real curious to see if the print that TCM airs is full of splices or (shudder) exist only in black and white. (LindaY, please post a follow-up message here after the movie airs.)
By all appearances, the recently revived Allied Artists believes that they still have a stake in the film, but according to Wikipedia:
"The post-1936 Monogram/Allied Artists library was bought by television producer Lorimar; today a majority of this library belongs to Warner Bros. Entertainment."
Hopefully the rightful owner will see fit to make a high-quality color version on DVD.
CAUTION:
The TCM website leaves room for some confusion about the air date of Snowfire.
Depending on one's interpretation of the grid, the 2:00 AM air time might fall on May 18th (Wednesday Morning Before Dawn) or May 17th (Tuesday Morning Before Dawn).
If you are hoping to record the airing, I'd suggest setting your recording device for Tuesday morning at the appropriate time just to play it safe. Then set it again for Wednesday if Tuesday was the wrong day.
You'll also need to adjust the airtime according to your time zone!
Snowfire will air on Late TUESDAY MAY 17th at 2am EASTERN TIME!! That is late Tuesday-Early Wednesday the 18th.
I have verified this in my electronic program guide from DirecTv. I now can see that far in advance. It is not early on the 17th. It is late 17th, early 18th.
The TCM website shows SNOWFIRE, and in the TITLE BANNER, it clearly states TUESDAY MAY 17TH, 2AM EASTERN TIME (ONLY ON TCM), but they consider after Midnight on the 17th as still the 17th programming.
It will be in full color. This is TCM, they will settle for nothing less than the best!!!
