WHY DIDN'T MILLICENT JUST STAY IN NYC?

Unless I missed something, she was in the hands of a knowledgeable, honest physician. Why didn't she work with him until he ascertained that she was cured -- vs. going to the quack(s) in her home town?

Penicillin was a few years away, but, in '38, they had Salvarsan ("introduced at the beginning of the 1910s as the first effective treatment for syphilis") and the improved product, Neosalvarsan. So why all the uncertainty and desperation about the disease?

And why the fear tactics? Just stay on message: Look, syphilis is badass. Always wear a connie -- and get STD ("social disease") tests on the reg, especially if you've been with skanks.

Just my 2 cents.

Martha Washington was a hip, hip, hip lady, man.

You must have missed the part where Milly was having problems finding regular work. Plus she was ill, weak and tired. Better to go home and let the folks take care of her and live a less stressful life while trying to recover.

At any rate, she should have been honest with her fiance about her illness. Not cool.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.
