I got the feeling throughout the film that Sadie really cared about LV. I was genuinely touched when she ran out onto the street in desperation when she saw the house on fire.

Yes, I see what you mean, she is a very quiet person herself and obviously did not like the way that Mari was treating LV, and although she did not stand up to Mari, she always went to care for LV
