Am I the only one...

who found LV really annoying? I don't know why, I didn't dislike her, in fact Jane Horrocks is a brilliant actress, but I just found her the most aggravatingly pathetic character.

reply

It's been well over a year so...quite possibly :-) I liked her.

reply

No, she irritated me too. I don't want to justify the mother's abusiveness toward her of course, but if I had a sulky daughter who didn't speak to anybody and blasted records all night and behaved like a bruised virgin every time somebody tried to make conversation with her, I think I would go nuts.

Children who have been browbeaten into submission over their entire lives will retreat into a world very few will be able to enter. They naturally become reclusive and shy. On top of the verbal abuse, if they are physically mistreated, it will only be all the more so.

That LV finds the gumption to finally let it all out in a screaming tirade against her mother is, in my view, a bit improbable but non the less satisfying.

annoying? that might apply to the whole film? rather pointless IMO.
"Born Romantic" is great though.

Leonard Maltin says of it... especially good to see the usually meek Horrocks playing against type!!! you can say that again!
