In your opinion is this a must own movie?

In your opinion, is this a movie you have to own or is this a movie that you would just watch on tv if it was on?

reply

Yes. Watched it many times

I wish the movie was on blu ray

Great sports movie.

I wouldn't say must own, maybe for golf fans though. Good film, but Matt Damon's swing is garbage. You can tell he had never played the game before. They should of casted Someone with a believable swing, or trained him longer then a month.

No.

Much as I like the film, I would say no. It's on Netflix so I'm watching it today and probably won't do so again for years. I would recommend two other, similar films with more "meat" to them, however: "A River Runs Through It" (also dir. by Redford) and "The Natural" (Levinson).

In ARRTI, the character of Paul Maclean (Brad Pitt), a hard-drinking, womanizing gambler in 1920's Montana, has the great gift of expert fly fishing...and that's all he needs. But the film deals with much more: sibling rivalry, romance, coming of age, being responsible for someone you love who has problems...and more.

Everyone knows the Natural, but it has the same "feel" as Bagger Vance--the sense of the mystical, with a touch of Greek tragedy and Arthurian heroism. And of course...baseball. Roy Hobbs (Redford) is portrayed not so much as a real, complex person but a symbol, often filmed in shadow, silhouette or at a distance.

I own both these films and watch them often.
