Plot hole at the end.

We were told that Gabriel Byrne was choosen to be the Devil's vessel.

However Satan tries to use Jericho to have sex with Christine.

This movie is riddled with plot holes, most of which are in relation to Lucifer and his inconsistent abilities, such as...

- He can make his human host invulnerable to fire and can make him walk through it yet later on the host somehow gets damaged from virtually the same elements by Arnold's gunfire and explosives. Miraculously, most of his body is destroyed when the subway is destroyed via grenade launcher but his head seems almost untouched.

- Maybe I missed something but he sets Kevin Pollak on fire just by touching him so why does he need to a lighter to light his cigarettes? Actuslly, what is the point in having him smoke at all? He doesn't need it nor does he need to eat or drink either.

- He can teleport himself to places at will, so why couldn't he immediately go to Christine York? And why not use some of that sh!t later on when Arnold puts a hold on his ceremony? Why couldn't he transport into the subway train instead of being on top of it punching his way through and playing Xenomorph?

- Here's another issue, if he needs Christine that badly why doesn't anybody use drugs to knock her out and bring her to him like that? Instead, he lets her be awake all the way through and waits too damn long like literally a few minutes before the strike of midnight. Just stupid.

And that's not even the half of it.

I get it, he's The Devil but at least be consistent with his powers people.

There's a difference then in the movie between anticipated fire like whatever he conjured to blow up the restaurant and the stuff that he was getting shot at with.

Miraculously, most of his body is destroyed when the subway is destroyed via grenade launcher but his head seems almost untouched

Well aside from being a plot convenience to allow him to keep talking, I'm sure there have been many examples of real life accidents and murders where people are blown to bits and their face and head remain partially intact

Maybe I missed something but he sets Kevin Pollak on fire just by touching him so why does he need to a lighter to light his cigarettes?

I think he was only able to set Kevin on fire because he wasn't setting him on fire, he was simply taking back his magic that put the original fire out and restored him.

Actually*, what is the point in having him smoke at all? He doesn't need it nor does he need to eat or drink either.

That is the point, he doesn't need to , but he's indulging in things generally thought of as bad for you. It's another example of the movie showing the devil do something 'bad'

He can teleport himself to places at will, so why couldn't he immediately go to Christine York?

This one I'm not sure of , I'm trying to remember scenes where he seemingly teleported. I don't recall seeing him blink or anything, are you referring to just zipping close to someone suddenly in a room?

Here's another issue, if he needs Christine that badly why doesn't anybody use drugs to knock her out and bring her to him like that? Instead, he lets her be awake all the way through and waits too damn long like literally a few minutes before the strike of midnight. Just stupid.

It's true, you think they would have had a better plan like 'well , for the final year we'll make her 'dissapear' and chain her up somewhere she can't be found, and we'll have an easy time getting the devil to her. As far as keeping her awake and taking time , you can call it arrogance. The devil was so sure he could win he reveled in trying to get Christine to want it.

There was never a 'certain' person named as Satan's vessel, he just seemed to pick a handsome man that was alone (no witnesses).
There doesn't seem to be any 'rules' as to whose body he has to be in possession of, to complete his mission.

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.
