is this considerd the 3rd one

i know its a stuped qustion but is this the 3rd movie in the addams family movies and if so why did most of the cast not return for this one

reply

Yes and no, but mostly NO I think.

The first 2 movies were based more of the comics, this 3rd movie was based more of the 1960's TV series, hence all the comedy and campiness.

Some people think this movie is a prequel to the first 2 but I don't think so since Fester is in it.

Just because we lose today's battle doesn't mean we've lost tommorow's war.

It has a couple of the same actors so I am tempted to say sequel.
On the other hand, it also sucks and has nothing to do with the other movies, so I wanna say reboot.

reply

Also, since it was direct to video, rather than at the movies, it was more of a cheap version.

for the first time i just started experiencing the original series from the dvd box, i'm so used to the two movies from the 90's, so it was very surprising when i first started hearing the laugh track and see it all played out as a sit com, but surely lurch must have scared the young tv audience?. morticia's part is amazing in both, morticia in the series is very fetching, and morticia in the 90's movies came off as a goddess, i haven't read any reviews about the series, but it must be quite unusual that the sequel get better reviews, funny i just now for the first time even heard about this "3rd" addams flick after the other two 90's addams movies have always been so accessible.

out there on the playing field,
i try my best to reach for victory,
but no matter all methods i try,
you seem to get me every time,
i'm at the goal begging on my knees,
could i have my ball back please?

it could maybe bridge Addams Family and Addams Family Values (be in the middle, can't be after Values since Pubert is not in it), but if you ask me, I don't think it was actually meant to be connected to them in continuity or spirit. only in name. I liked it just fine as a kid (maybe a little more so than that), but I may very well not feel the same way about it now.

Whoa, you saw the movie before ever seeing the television series. Is it no longer syndicated during holidays? They used to do marathons of Addams Family and Twilight Zone.

I would say no. The original 2 movies and this one were made by different studio's and different people under a different set of rights and with a VERY different level of quality.

reply

More like reboot/unofficial sequel.

I tried to watch it a handful of years ago and got 20 minutes in and turned it off. Just awful.

I definitely don't consider it a sequel, and I wouldn't really call it a reboot either, but just some weird one-off thing they did that was quickly forgotten about (if anyone even know about it in the first place).

reply

It was awful, but still mildly watchable. I feel it will be quickly forgettable though.

I loved the 2nd movie the most, and can't wait for Netflix's Wednesday.

reply

I loved both the movies from the 90s. They were excellent. I prefer the first, but Addams Family Values definitely has some very memorable scenes (like the Thanksgiving play).

I watched the trailer for Wednesday. Hopefully it will be good, but it felt a little too much like Harry Potter re-skinned with Addams Family atmosphere and characters.
