Question: Why did Kenny wishtle in the embassy? (*SPOILER*)

Just curious why Kenny wisthled while he was waiting for Rob? And who was the woman with the batch? She looked kinda sad :(

Anyways, I think it is a great movie which shows that even the president has to struggle and fight for the right decision against members (!) of his government.

reply

To show that he, and by extension America, was not nervous.

This ^^^^ and probably because he knew the embassy was likely bugged and wanted to screw with the Soviets.

Think about how acting so nonchalant about something so serious could unnerve the Soviets. It would be like your boss coming into your office and saying. "Good morning. Have some coffee. How's the wife and kids? Man, that was some game last night; did you see it? Oh, by the way, I see that you have embezzled 1.3 million dollars from the company."

reply

Before Bobby goes in, Kenny tells him "I'll whistle up some luck for you." That's what he was doing. It's a Boston Irish Catholic thing.

That makes sense!

Did you mean "badge" as in her Soviet metal piece on her clothing?

She was just some other member of the USSR Embassy---maybe even Kenny's equivalent. She was scared and nervous, so was Kenny---he was just and doing a better job at hiding it. That's why she felt better when he lightened up and a bit and showed more of his fatherly/kinder side. It showed, as he said, he was a friend.

reply

Yes, she wasn't sad, she was scared s**tless and kudos to that actress who portrayed her. Short but excellent performance.

reply

I assumed that woman was the Ambassador's wife, but it could be anybody...
