did anyone else actually enjoy this movie?

After reading a few of these boards, it is clear that many do not enjoy this movie. I, however, do like it quite a bit. For one, SMG and SPF do a fantastic job as the main characters, as do all of the other actors. (Character-wise, I found Lois and Jonathan very amusing.) The story combines age-old topics such as magic and entrancement, love and heartbreak, and delicious food empowering people, all entwined together to create a very romantic story, a.k.a. a not-so-typical chick flick. I also found the humor very subtle and wry, as well as very witty.

Is there anyone else who agrees with me?

This is heavy, Doc.

I saw this movie a while back on TV (I think) and I did like it a lot. Whenever I would see it on TV after that I would watch it. It is a light happy movie that just makes me feel good, and what is wrong with that? It doesn't have to be brilliant to be entertaining. I love the whole thing in the resturant where the people are feeling her emotions in the food. Very beautiful.

I agree with you entirely! I thought the humour was nice and subtle and the film interesting because it was an unusual take on girl meets boy etc!

It was a cheesy chick flick

I love this movie ... partly because I love Sean Patrick Flanery, but also because I enjoy this movie for what it is ... light hearted entertainment. If I can watch something for 2 hours, not be bored, forget about my problems and truly enjoy myself, then it was a good movie. It doesn't have to have a message or make sense really (as long as it doesn't go too far into the realm of unbelievability), if it can do all that, it's good in my book.

I sure did. I usually only watch foreign/ind films with political intrigue. However, this movie was great: a magic crab? With a sense of humor? The characters were all likeable, even when they were behaving badly. Everyone was redeemed at the end, even the sous chef who amanda called a "fig." Love is powerful, magical, and this movie captured it in a cute, amusing fashion. And I really liked the crab - it was funny. Imagine, a pet crab who is enchanted?!

seriously, are you all out of your minds? Drunk? Cognitively disabled? This was the most ridiculous movie I've ever seen. The dialogue, delivery, story line...nothing made any sense. It felt as if it were written by a 13 year old who likes princesses. Enchanted crabs? Sudden ability to actually cook? Floating in the kitchen? Fog inexplicably appearing in the restaurant? Sure, why not? And what's with all of the moaning and licking that the characters do everytime they eat those eclairs? There was zero chemistry between just about everyone. And, in response to the above comment, no one was redeemed in the end. SMG and the dude get back together but that's it. And while her big meal is a success, everyone who eats it experiences her emotions--except SMG doesn't seem to really be showing any emotion throughout the whole event save for her usual forelorn vacant stare. Everyone should watch this at least once, though, if for nothing else to experience failed film making at nearly every turn. Good grief, I can't believe someone is still receiving residuals from this.

I want to enjoy this movie, I like the premise, but the acting is sooooo horible! Like when she goes into the department to buy plates, and is "all nervous" about going there, but has enough presence of mind to stop and smell a perfume on the first floor.... just not natural! SMG was fine on soap operas, but is not strong enough, yet, to carry a movie. Her "come hither" finger pointing is not mature enough yet for her to be a romantic lead (i.e, the dance scene on the black and white floor), she still seems to be a young girl portrarying a mature woman, and she's just not that. I do love the fact that she's a young starlet, very beautiful, and has not turned into a total tramp. So great hope for her future. I would love to see her as the romantic lead in a movie like "Serendipity." Comments?

Even though at times the movie gave me the impression that it wasn't sure what it was trying to do (plotwise), I still liked it. I'm a big Sarah Michelle Gellar fan. Put SMG into any romantic comedy and I'm there. Just seeing her on the screen in this film was worth the admission price. After I saw it in the theater, I actually went out and bought it on VHS when VHS was still popular. It has gone into the rest of my SMG collection.

I too love this movie. It's one of those few movies that was so bad it's actually good. Yes it is wrong on soooooo many levels but that just makes it a guilty pleasure.
