In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Toast.

<______< Did Frank honestly say that when his father, Malachy and himself were praying to God after the second twin died? I swear it sounded like he said that. Kind of adorable, really if he did. LOL Then again, they weren't a very well-versed Catholic family, so it's understandable, I guess. LOL

He might have. But he was a little boy, so he might have mispronounced it.

So cute!
Kids get things wrong all the time. I remember saying "the witch who stands" when reciting the Pledge of Allegiance as a kid until I was corrected ("for which it stands") by the teacher!

Malachy McCourt (the younger) wrote a book entitled "A Monk Swimming", and explained that he thought those words were in the Hail Mary - "Blessed art thou a monk swimming" (it should be "blessed art thou amongst women" for the non-Catholics reading this).

Its on now but i have not paid much attention to the movie however I did look up when i heard Holy toast and yes that is what he said lol.

I watched the movie last night too. I was half asleep and need to watch it again.

I got the DVD today and, yes, he did say "Holy Toast." And, yes, it was done to demonstrate his age and lack of understanding of life and religion.

That was hilarious & so true to life. What person can't remember saying or thinking something as a child, then growing up & realizing they were somewhat off?

The 1st half really felt like a dramady, I laughed a lot!

"...the young man would love it too, but he can't afford it."

Lol, lutello - I used to wonder what a "one-horse soap & sleigh" was! I remember once putting on a skit for relatives & there were 4 of us kids in it. I was the director and also the minister in the skit who married two people. I said, "Would you take this woman to be your 'awfully' wedded wife?"

Frankie did say "Holy Toast" in the movie, btw.
