random pointless question.....

hi, this is a really stupid question but i thought id ask it anyway (lighten the mood). you know the part where frankie and her mate are talking at the food stall (about her possibly being pregnant). well my question is this. is it normal in america for food stalls to have a basket of bread or whatever it is, that you can just pull bits off and eat, and then put half of it back in the basket and not pay for it. i know she paid for the other food, but is there food on the counters you can just munch on for free? cos in the uk you would be charged if you ate a crumb that was on the counter...ha.

I missed this part but no, I don't think so - ALTHOUGH - I don't live in New York, or a big city, maybe they do that there but I wouldn't think so. In some steak houses they have roasted peanuts that customers can munch on while waiting for a table (you used to be allowed to throw the shells on the floor, too) but not bread. Not sure I'd want to munch on the free bread either, not if someone is pulling pieces off and putting it back in the basket... ew.

I sure hope it's not normal lol. It's been a while since I've watched this but I do remember the part you're talking about. I never really thought about it until reading your post. I can't imagine that would be sanitary lol.

A lot of supermarkets in America put out free samples. I've very rarely seen restaurants or cafes do this, but on occasion I've seen a scone or bread cut up.

I don't, however, think anyone is supposed to put back food they've already touched!

I noticed that too and thought it was really weird. I don't live in a city so I was wondering if this was at all realistic because even the thought of the bread sitting out in the open like that kind of grossed me out.
