best movie on mst3k?

okay, so it's not even a good movie. but time chasers is gold compared to corman fare like it conquered the world, coleman francis's trilogy of terror, bert i. gordon's stuff, sandy frank's imported japanese movies with dubbing slapped onto them, and last but by no means least the truly banal stuff like monster a go-go, space mutiny, the starfighters, and manos. you can tell that it was the director's first project after film school, and everyone in it gave their best effort. not a good movie, but at least it's a respectable one, right?

it still made for one of my favorite mst3k episodes, but that's beside the point.

I agree completely. The riffing was great, but still, I would hold this one up as an example of a decent effort at making an amateur full-length feature. People who want to make their own movies should watch this one and then watch Manos, as that will really demonstrate the need to at least have an idea of what you're doing. These people did, and it shows even though they fell way short.

I agree. The plot was decent and the acting was not too bad. The worst part of the movie was the budget was super small.

I can see where you're coming from. It's not great, but it passes the time, and it's hard to dislike the producers and actors etc. It's interesting to compare it with The Final Sacrifice - both films were done on a shoestring by enthusiasts far away from Hollywood, but whereas Sacrifice is laughable this has a certain charm. With a bit more money and work and Kevin Bacon in the lead role etc etc it might have been a good comedy adventure along the lines of Innnerspace or Tremors.

It's not the best movie on MST3K though. That would probably be Phase IV (from the KTMA season) or Space Travelers / Marooned. Touch of Satan is actually a little bit creepy. Catalina Caper isn't bad for what it is. Diabolik is a minor classic of pure style. I suspect that the original TV version of Fugitive Alien would have seemed awesome if you were a Japanese kid in the early 1980s.

The Amazing Colossal Man is rubbish as a monster movie but as a character study I thought it was surprisingly effective; I felt genuinely sorry for Colonel Manning. There's surely a thread about this on an MST3K fan site somewhere.

I was up late one night and this movie was playing on cable. The real movie, not the MST3K version. This is the ONLY MST3K movie I've seen shown in it's real version on TV. I sat and watched it and honestly it's not nearly as bad as most of the films they made fun of on that show. It's not a great film, but you can fallow the plot and it's at least watchable. You can tell they were trying their best. Also, the bad stuff is so bad it's good even without the three guys in the corner.

It's a good movie if you smoke a blunt while watching it.

In all seriousness, I don't think it's any good at all. The only time it's entertaining is when Mike, Crowe, and Servo makes comments on how awful it's being...just like all MST3K fare.

There are several movies on MST3K that I think, despite being "bad" by blockbuster standards, are actually good or at least competent in a general sense. In the case of Time Chasers and some others I'd say that really the primary thing hurting them is that they are very low budget. In spite of that, I enjoy movies like Time Chasers, Space Mutiny, and even The Final Sacrifice more than I do some big budget, successful Hollywood films.

Time Chasers has a small budget which means it has bad effects and doesn't have especially gifted actors, but the story is fine. The movie has charisma at least, which makes it likable. Its entertaining and endearing in a way.

Agreed. One of my favorite MST episodes of all-time, but I might even go as far as to say I *deep breath* LIKE this movie. I'd probably even watch it un-MST'd. Call me crazy, but I think it's a fun little flick.

i know a riffed movie is decent when i'm trying to pay attention to the actual movie and wanting the guys to pipe down for a second.

not a bad movie - especially for a low budget/independent. pretty ambitious and it had some pretty cool ideas for time travel.
