2.3 Rating is unfair

First off, the MST3K episode is very funny. However, I doubt many people who have rated this movie have actually watched the non-MST3K version. It is a fun and clever movie. It definitely doesn't deserve such a low rating. There's a lot of crap stories with excellent visuals that have ratings above 7. This movie is trying hard, and is as well crafted as possible with the resources that were available at the time. On it's own merits, this movie deserves at least a 6 or above. Personally, it is one of my favorite movies of all time. My rating is an 8 based on entertainment value. The rating for this movie is unfairly low and should amended to reflect sincere reviews and not second hand MST3K viewings.

I'm also a huge fan of MST3K, and the episode is one of my favorites (then again, I'm a fan so I love a lot of popular episodes of theirs). However, it's mostly definitely not a 2.3 film and I usually think most films on MST3K are really bad or so bad, it's good (The Melting Man being one of my favorites in that category for what they did). I don't know if I'd rate it as high as you, for me it's a 6 or even a 6.5 at best. It's a flawed movie and there's definitely things to pick on but that doesn't mean it's bad. Nostalgia Critic's (a MST3K influence guy) review of Commando was very positive yet he still made things to make fun of.

I actually don't mind IMDb ratings that much despite my bitching in the past (see my post history). I just exaggerated and I rage when someone goes "Oh, X is rated higher than Y so it must be better" or rating films higher than another. I actually prefer the bottom 100 but a fair amount of the movies on there I kinda enjoy in their badness (Birdemic being my favorite, again). However, I don't always go with it or say, "yeah, it being rated low must be bad." I do take it with a grain of salt at times and this just happens to be one of them. If not, then Garbage Pail Kids is clearly the better film.

I did see the behind the scenes stuff and it seems they worked hard on it especially for a low budget. Sad to see it get a low rating but what can you do? Now, I haven't seen the non-MST3K version myself, but seeing that version and thinking it wasn't that bad, I wouldn't mind to see the original or buy a copy of it.

How is 2.3 unfair? The movie only happened because Nick needed money, but the time machine worked, and they clearly pointed out IN THE MOVIE that depositing $100 100 years ago would make him a millionaire, therefore nullifying the entire plot of the movie.

Manhunt in Space is one of the greatest films of all time ... But MST3K's treatment satisfies me deeply and beyond sexual gratification.

Time Chasers without MST3K --- 6.0 ---
With MST3K --- 9.2 ---

Manhunt in Space without MST3K --- 9.5 ---
With MST3K --- 9.9 ---

How could you not rate it above 9 when you have a guy named WINKY with a little black book with Nancy Culp's phone number in it that enjoys the Gay nightlife and prefers to RIDE THE ROCKET ?

Time Chasers on the other hand doesn't give me wood but very close.

I don't like to think people give low ratings to films simply because they were on MST3K. That seems like something someone who has never seen either version would do. "Oh, this was on MST3K? Well then it probably sucks."

A lot of the films they've riffed are enjoyable in their own right, despite the running commentary. How can you enjoy the MST3K version but still not find the film itself entertaining? In fact I think the more enjoyable the film is, the funnier the commentary tends to be. In my opinion the REVENGE OF THE CREATURE episode is vastly superior to their MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE episode, which is often considered the show's best episode. When I first saw the BLOODLUST episode, I liked the film enough to watch the regular version.
