I don't get the ending to this movie

If both Nicks were stuck in 1777, how exactly did Nick #3 learn that time travel was bad and to delete the tapes? Shouldn't thing have progressed to square 1 as the only two Nicks who knew to stop it were stuck in the past?

reply

Because both Nicks were not stuck in 1777. There were two time travel machines that went back in time (the CEO's plane and the one that younger Nick and Lisa obviously took to get back to 1777 first to tell the soldiers that the CEO was a spy).

The CEO's plane was destroyed when it hit a tree and killed the CEO (older Nick died too). Then, younger Nick used his plane to go back to the future and trick the CEO into not being interested in the time machine.

So, THAT part of the movie was consistant. There were plenty of other parts of the movie that remain unanswered, such as why the CEO felt that he needed to go back to 1777 to disposes of the bodies. Why not go back to 2000 BC and just let wild animals devour the bodies?

To me, the biggest problem is why Nick thought that he had to present his idea to the local mega corporation for funding. If I had a time machine, I can think of a dozen ways to make some quick cash (lottery anyone?).

Yes, that was my first thoughts as well. At least with movies like Back to the Future they used all those problems with the time machine in an effective practical matter. Part 1- accident Part 2 used our idea but in an evil way, Part 3 accident again.

I believe, because I understand.

Right. Or, they could have just fixed the illogic with an offhand comment or two, such as a line like, "I tried to go back and win the lottery, but the numbers had all changed when I got back. Something always goes wrong when I try anything like that." Bingo, illogic solved.

Now, for the rest of the movie ...

Isn't the realy plot hole the fact that Past Nick and Lisa had no way of knowing that Future Nick even existed, let alone was trapped in 1777. However they were still able to travel back in time and recruit the Colonial militia.

All in all, however, I enjoyed this movie by itself a lot more than most MST3k fare.
