i'm sorry but i didn't like the movie at all. It is supposed to be a cronicle of hungary in 100 years but if you compare this to cronicles as la meglio gioventu or heimat is seems a nice hollywood romance to me. if you cut the various romances the film remains an empty spot. So artificial and superficial. what else can be expected when the same actor represent 3 generations, that's simply unrealistic and far from usual in cronicles.
the way fiennes caracter 1 , 2 and 3 desperately seeking to have things in comment because of their genetic background is so week.
i'm sorry but this film was romantic comedy for me, nothing dramatic about it and nothing historical. the fascists are bad, the communists try to break them but make the same mistakes. very true it is but shown in such a simple way.

I really liked when Ralph frozen.

That was a really *beep* up and disgusting thing to say. You have serious issues.

Give Ralph Fiennes what he's been owed since Schindler's List - His Oscar!

Oh good - after reading all the other comments where everyone loved it I wondered if I had missed something - my mom and I watched it together and neither of us would recommend it to anyone - we thought it was just silly Ralph playing three characters - we kept thinking he was the grandfather or the father - and the way they emphasized some things, like the maid or Valeri's cane we thought they were going to play a big part in the film and then nothing came out of it - as well, lots of the nudity was not even necessary for the film to be enjoyable - and it was quite long!

My husband and I watch the film last night and agree completely with kjul128. It was silly and not worth the three hours it takes to watch it. Watch "Schinder's List" again, or something else well-done if you want to spend three hours with a thought-provoking movie.
