Has anybody made a really good movie of 'Little Men'?

"Little Men" was one of my favorite books when I was 10 or 11. (Others were "Tom Sawyer" and "Hans "Brinker.") I've seen the 1934 version of "Little Men." It was not bad, but it was not Louisa Alcott's book. It was something else. Sort of like "Angels With Dirty Faces" starring the Dead End Kids. If there's a really good movie, will you please let me know if it's available in DVD?

I'm with you- it was a favorite book growing up. I'd re-read it about every year, and got more out of the story every time.

I haven't seen this movie but it is apparently a good try. It may well be the best one that's ever going to be made.

I just watched the 1940 version and was quite flabbergasted at the HUGE departures from the plot and characters of the book. Probably not a bad film overall, for the time, but NOT the book.

Thanks for your response to my question. I think there must be 4 or 5 movie or TV versions of Little Men. I've seen parts of two of them & found them unacceptable. In one, they changed the setting from the 1800s to the 1920s. In another, Josephine Bhaer was a widow. I give up. Maybe I'll read the book again. It's been many years. Again, thanks.
