Yes, Endgame opened theatrically, although in a different cut compared to what was released on DVD.

Glad it did. But was too busy to go to check it out and wouldve hoped they still had the series by then.

Sadly I saw it in theaters...no one left happy

reply

Seconded... I even talked 2 friends to come with me because I'd loved the TV show and figured Adrian Paul would make this movie better than the prior bad sequels.... boy did I feel like an *beep*

I've tried to erase all memory of this movie's plot from my mind, lest it tarnish my memory of the TV show.

reply

Yes this went to the movie theaters because I went and saw it when it came out back in 2000.

Usually, you expect that if producers make a movie out of a TV show, the movie should be at least as good, or better than the show. Not in this case. This movie is the biggest piece of crap of all time.

reply

I liked it and thought it was good but I did not care for the main character that created the franchise and caused a TV show to be sprung from the movie killed off though. That was the only thing I did not like about it.

I like this film, too - my personal idea of the Highlander franchise goes like this:

Original film, the TV series, then this film.

reply

It is a good film in my opinion but I do not care for the main character to get killed off in the movie though.

Apparently you haven't seen Highlander: The Source, or Blues Brothers 2000

I like this film even if the budget is not very high on it I feel it is a good continuation from the 1st fil;m (apart from Connor winning the prize!) and the TV series as I saw the end of the tv series a few months back and thought it was awful so in a sense this is a good end. As for The Source, it is a pretty bad film. I know they were trying to do something different but IMO they shodul haev kept it the same thing with Duncan facing another adversary.

I saw it in theaters. It came out my first week of High School, and I saw it opening weekend. I was surprised when I saw the ads for it on TV because I hadn't heard a word about a new Highlander film coming out...show's the faith Dimension had in it. Little marketing muscle and 'Endgame' was out of theaters by month's end.
At first, I hated the film. Mainly due to them killing off Connor. I thought that was pure sacrilege. But I liked the gang of villains and the decent production values. It took me years to get comfortable with seeing it again on DVD. And now that the bad taste of Connor's demise is out of my mouth, I find myself liking 'Endgame'. If anything it's decent entertainment.

i saw it on September 8th because the local theater in my hometown didnt have it on September 1st. that had me quite sad as i was very psyched to see the movie. i think it was my junior year of high school.

i first heard about the film in 1999 when there was behind the scenes stuff posted on the internet. a lot of early promos for the movie were on the Highlander catalogue. the first time i saw a trailer for it was when the X-Men movie was in theaters. there was a teaser trailer for Endgame. it was an edited version of the scene where Connor finds Duncan on the battlefield of Scotland. that had me excited. then the full length trailer was premiered on E Entertainment around late July. trailer really had me in anticipation. because of course it advertised a very nifty Highlander movie. that at the time was always spoken of as the grand finale.

at the first screening i was happy to see Connor MacLeod again and on the big screen. was great to see Duncan and Methos and later Joe. all was well for those first 30 to 40 minutes. i remember the audience cheering and clapping the moment Duncan took out his sword just as he was about to face the other immortals in Connor's loft. that felt like such a fun moment because yea it had been a couple years since the last episode of the tv series aired. but then the movie just felt very rushed. i was quite depressed that Connor died. especially in the way they established the character for this film.he was mostly just in flashbacks. in the present day he only has 2 scenes...made it all the more depressing.
i left the theater dissapointed but not bummed because the movie was entertaining. still it felt like a death in the family. just really kind of numb that Connor MacLeod passed on.

i went a second time because the movie was still stuck in my head. so a couple days later i went to see it again. this time with my expectations lowered. it was an ok experience.

when it was on DVD. i was really excited to see the Producer's Cut. thinking it was going to be like Halloween 666. where the Producer's version is a very different movie in tone and lots of alternate scenes. expecting to see the footage from the trailer in the movie...yea didnt happen.
regardless to say, i did watch that DVD like 90 times. like every day i played it. it was the only new DVD movie that i owned at that time. was still making that slow transition from VHS.the tv series hadnt been released yet.

it is decent entertainment. especially after seeing Highlander:The Source (both cuts), Endgame seems much more in the spirit of Highlander.

This was in theaters? I always thought it was a DTV sequel!

It was in theatres. The theatrical version was better than the version released on DVD....

reply

Nah, the DVD cut fleshes out the characters a lot more, a much better opening scene with Conner and Duncan, the final battle between Duncan and Kell was improved because it was longer and had more action(I felt cheated by the theatrical cut finale) and Duncan running from the exploding flames and the fight in the room full of chains were really cool! The ending was better and less downbeat, it made the film come full circle. It was just a more satisfying viewing experience and should've been the version we saw in theaters, not that butchered theatrical cut! I also feel the same way about Highlander 2 Renegade Version.

reply

Meh, most of the added stuff was superfluous. And the final fight sequence sucks on the DVD. They literally use the same footage twice during the sequence.

I prefer the theatrical ending where Kate did not survive.

reply

I didn't like the re used footage either lol but they only did it once during that scene, Duncan running away from the fireball and the fight inside that room full of dangling chains were nice additions IMO. The theatrical cut finale felt way too short for a Highlander film and anti climatic, the DVD beefed it up and was more satisfying. I liked both endings actually. They need to release a blu ray with both cuts, have you seen the workprint version on disc 2 of the old DVD?

reply

Yeah. I was a huge Highlander fan back then. I even had another video CD workprint that was leaked before the DVD was released.

The movie if fundamentally flawed, so no cut is ever going to be that good. But I do prefer the theatrical ending where Duncan loses Kate. It just seems more fitting.

I also agree the theatrical version should be available.

reply

It sure did. This is actually the only Highlander movie I saw in the theater. It was also one of the last movies my shithole theater showed before they got state of the art remodel. They lost out on all that sweet Phantom Menace money cause they weren't even allowed to show it there.

reply

It was my chance to see a Highlander film in the theatre and I didn't get around to it 😔 (I guess I could've seen HL3 but never got round to either)
