The party massacre in this....

was much better than the prom scene in the 1976 film, in my opinion.

Depends on what you're looking for. The prom scene has an amazing build-up, and I love the use of slow-motion and split-screen. It's also much more tragic because a lot of the people killed were people who liked Carrie and didn't actually laugh at her like Miss Collins and Tommy, while the main villains (Chris, Billy) had already left.

However if I'm in the mood for lots of gore, I'd go with the party massacre in The Rage. So many great, creative kills.

reply

yeah this is much better than the prom scene

reply

It's only better if you want gore. I still liked this movie but the prom scene in the original is iconic for a good reason while this party massacre is anything but.

reply

The Party Massacre is why I give this movie a 0/10. It abandoned the horror of the original's prom scene, instead trying to make us CHEER ON a bullied teenager taking revenge on her bullies by murdering them. (Now what does that sound like to you?)

What was so "horrifying" about the original prom scene?

Even if it wasn't scary to you, it doesn't change the fact it was SUPPOSED to be scary (Sissy's performance, the music, the fact innocent people are being butchered)
The Rage didn't even try to go for scary. It tried to justify what is, essentially, a school shooting (Kid is bullied and mistreated. Kid responds byh murdering everyone that was ever mean to him/her)

Brian De Palma did an excellent job directing the prom scene in the first film. It was memorable, and it was probably one of the reasons why Sissy Spacek was nominated for an Oscar for her performance. Sadly the director of the 2nd wasn't as strong.

reply

"Wasn't as strong" implies that the party scene was anything better than abysmal. Ugh.

IA that De Palma did a brilliant job with the original Prom. It stands up to this day, and Sissy OWNED the scene. I find it kinda funny that Chloe Moretz, despite doing more with her face and body, didn't have even half the screen presence Sissy did

I wasn't talking about the screenplay (which it seems is the part you dislike the most), but the actual directing of the two scenes. Brian De Palma owned that prom scene, and everything about it is iconic. I don't think the directing of the 2nd was "abysmal" or anything, but I also don't think it was great. Perfectly passable, and it seems some people found it effective, and I'd say the director did a perfectly fine job.

reply

OH! Yeah, the directing wasn't horrible. Though I recall not liking it for some reason. I can't remember enough specifics to really judge.
Still, no De Palma.

And yeah, the remake was pretty weak outside of Julianne Moore (Anael and Alex were fine too I guess)

Oh, and I totally agree about the remake :). Completely mediocre.

reply

I disagree, I thought this film and the remake were both really good.

reply

The remake was a rehash of the original. Talk about pointless
As for this one... it's down there with The Descent 2

you have mentioned over and over that this movie is bad and Rachel is a horrible character. but i do not see what was so bad about her killing the bullies. she had no one and the school is not going to help

Rob Zombie is one of the greatest directors today

reply

Because murdering people is wrong in all circumstances. What Rachel did was the equivalent of a school shooting.

I am glad she killed them all and it is implied and shown with all the ways she was tormented she basically lost her mind at that point. They picked the wrong girl to make a joke of and now they are dead. Jokes on them.

reply

But that doesn't mean killing people...

I agree. Although the original film is clearly better overall, I'd probably say the party scene in this is my favorite massacre out of all the Carrie films.

I personally think Pino Donnagio, Sissy Spacek, and Brian De Palma wmade the prom scene intense.

The Rage Carrie 2 maybe it's better in terms of gore and special effects, but I felt 0 suspense and it was just blood everywhere and nothing more.

However, the first film had some elements that will remain in your mind forever: The music, the build-up, the slow mo sequence, the split screen, Sissy Spacek look on her face, her eyes and her body language, and her body covered in blood.

You really feel something for the main characters (Carrie and Rachel), but Carrie had a very difficult life and was vulnerable, and Rachel was just a b!tch who really knew how to stand up for herself, and at the end it was just matter to take the whole thing with humor, or just get the phuk out from that party and go home.

Carrie, on the other hand, have had enough, and everyone was unfair and abusive, even her own mother. So, that being said, Carrie had all reasons to. Rachel not.
