Monica's Quote "Salvation Army Alert"

The scene where Monica & Tracey are sitting down outside as they see Jesse asking Rachel out for the 1st time. Monica says to Tracey "salvation army alert". What did she mean by that?

In high school (ok, movie high school), you'd have to turn in your "Cool Kid" card if anyone saw you wearing thrift store clothes. Rachel seems to intentionally go for the thrift store look, which probably made her that much more unpopular with the in-crowd. Doesn't Monica (or someone) also say something about "bottom-feeder" in that scene?

reply

I wouldn't say Rachel's clothes were from a thrift shop but her clothes did look like she bought them from a gothic or low priced clothing store. Tracey was the 1 who called Rachel a "bottom feeder" & which meant that she was a low life sadly

Since Salvation Army is typically associated with poor, lower class people I took it as a way of Monica being very snobbish and condescending trying to act like she's so much better than "that trash."
