Mr. Headstone is dreamy

Hot sideburns, nice deep voice, good looks.

Yeah he's troubled, but Morrissey makes you feel quite bad for him.

reply

Agreed! Morrissey is so handsome. Too bad Headstone turned out to be a nutjob - he and Lizzy would have made a beautiful couple.

reply

For whatever reason, I found him even more attractive when he was beating himself up over Lizzy

reply

too bad he was a psycho.

reply

I disagree that he was dreamy. I found him scary!

reply

I found the actor dreamy is Sense and Sensibility, but here he scares me!

The actor is fine but the character is terrifying. I can't imagine how awful it must be to be pursued by someone so completely obsessed and jealous.

Mr. Headstone is, by all accounts, not very dreamy. More like nightmare-y.

I've only seen David Morrissey in a few productions (Doctor Who: The Next Doctor, Sense and Sensibility, and South Riding) and I personally find David VERY attractive (especially as Colonel Brandon!)

And when I watched OMF, I was expecting him to be the main love interest, with Charles McGann as the mustachioed villainous suitor. I was even feeling sorry for Mr. Headstone when he was having trouble speaking, and later proposing, to Lizzy. That is, until he charged at her in a violent fury and started shaking her. Then I was like, "yeah, you're kind of cray cray Mister."

And he just got more and more disturbing, especially stalking McGann's character.

At the end, he does make you emphasize with him, but Mr. Headstone - if in modern times - would be the sort to start shooting up a public place. He's crazy.

I was impressed with both Michael Morrissey's performance as a dangerous stalker and Charles Dickens nailing the dangerous obsessed stalker in the book.

reply

I didn't feel bad for him at all. I think the actor is good looking but for me character trumps looks and Mr. Headstrong is quite off his rockers. I was in no way attracted to such a deeply disturbed man. He couldn't even control his passion or even struggled against it. To me he was not only obsessed with Lizzy but also Eugene.

I saw the actor afterwards in Sense and Sensibility but I confess I still prefer Alan Rickman's rendition of Colonel Brandon.

reply

He's good looking but much too violent to be attractive. He appeared to have no respect for Lizzie's feelings. Once she turned down his proposal, he should have left her alone and moved on.
